Things I like to do for free

So while I’m here, looking for a job, I’ve been trying really hard not to spend any money. So this morning, while getting ready, and waiting for my car (which still hasn’t gotten here from Florida ffs) I thought about things I like to do that don’t cost me any money.

  • Going on a picnic - I just grab whatever is in the pantry/refrigerator, find a nice patch of grass, and plop down to eat and nap. This was almost impossible in Florida, but we managed to find some shaded areas and it was nice. Especially when my sister cooked a real nice meal.
  • Go to the library - I’m a total nerd. I can spend hours inside a library or a bookstore. I prefer a library because I can check out books for free and continue my little nerd session.
  • Go to a park - There’s this park up here that Brent took me to, Cascade. It has a little hiking trail, and it’s so much fun to just go there and look at the ducks in the pond, or “hike”, or just swing on the little swing sets.
  • Play a nerdy board game - So my favorite board games are Sudoku, Scrabble, and Boggle and there’s nothing like having a little get together, kicking ass, and eating junk food. If you like the game Sudoku, and you have the little Sudoku books, you have to check out the board game, it’s sweet.
  • Journaling - I have this little journal/collage notebook that I take out on rainy days. I doodle, paste random scraps, add pictures, color, whatever—and it’s such a good way to relax and unwind.
  • LAN party - Just me, the good ol’ computer, a cup of hot chocolate, a pack of sunflower seeds, my soulmate downstairs, and the joy of the internets. I browse my feeds, read livejournals, browse message boards, look at Flickr, Stumble, read other blogs, etc.

That’s just what I do. Feel free to post some of yours. Oh, and while you’re at it, pray that I get a job? Thanks.

Knitting! Okay so it isn’t exactly free, but once you get past the initial needle investment (under five bucks) and two or three balls of yarn (depends on the yarn you buy, could be $12, could be $120) you can sit there for days on end just knitting a scarf or anything else you care to make. You can also use plastic grocery bags, the plastic from inside cassette tapes, unraveled sweaters, basically anything that is flexible and string-like.

I watch television shows and movies online, nothing better than watching Monk or House. Um, other than that I’m pretty boring. I owe the library a lot of money, I’m boycotting them for their outrageous fines, and there’s nothing at all to do in this town. Sigh.

Your free-playtime sounds great!! It’s winter here right now so I can’t really go to a picnic in the snow… but I’m hoping we’re going to be able to do a lot of that this winter!
In our time, the thing that we do for free is go and look at showhomes… and see how great new houses comes in and at what price. *sigh* though we cannot afford it… lol

Anyways, I really enjoy your layout! Would you like to exchange links?

Origami is free, if you have paper.  I also like writing and tidying my room, this is amongst other things that is also on your list :).  Okay reading back, that makes me sound sad.  Ah well..

Don’t worry you’ll get a job soon enough.  ;)

Those sound fun :) I do some of those myself.Other things that I like to do that don’t cost anything, include drawing, photoshopping (XD) and sleeping. Good lord, sleeping is the best thing ever.

Oh, what CAN’T i do with no money?!

I love doing all the things you’ve already listed, plus I really recommend that people scour their local paper for any mentions of upcoming festivals, exhibitions, gallery openings, etc. The main art galleries in Melbourne have free entry, and I always enjoy visiting them.

Local street festivals are always fun - even if you don’t have money to spend on snacks and bits and bobs.

And well, there’s nothing more fun than open-air cinema. What my friends and I did once was open up their patio doors, turn the television around to face the yard, and loll about on the grass watching DVDs.

Sudoku! My mom and I love bonding over the daily Sudoku puzzle on the newspaper every morning. I’ll be sure to check out the board game.

The things I like to do for free… hmm. This is tough, it seems as if everything comes with a price tag these days. I like taking long walks at night, taking photos, and… reading.

Lol, I’m saving up too. You can always play wirelss/oline games with your friends too. Like on candystand.com they have multiplayer bowling or world of warcraft if your into nerdy stuff. I personally just watch t.v. or read a good book under a nice tree at the park....that or play basketball & softball with the guys. xD

Free activities, ftw! Thankfully, I can entertain myself without spending. But when all else fails, I tend to take a nap.

Great list!  I think I should make a list like this one!  I totally love blogging and can play online all day.  My boyfriend skateboards, so I like to go watch I can lie out in the sun all day when it’s nice out and I’m ‘tanning’ so I don’t consider the day wasted even if I do nothing else.  I also do lots of art/writing as well.  I also clean to destress.  I’ll post more on my site if I do a post about this.

I like your list. I do most of the things on it, but I also bike. I haven’t been able to lately because of a busted foot, but normally I bike 5 miles a day. Good way to kill time.
