Memorable Movie Characters

January 31, 2008 · Filed under: Personal.

I got this meme of sorts from Britney, who in turn has inspired other people, including myself.
I love movies. I’ve talked about how I love them and how some have changed my life, but I’ve never done a memorable characters post, so here goes nothing.

Raimunda | Volver
This woman is just fierce. She’s ambitious, intelligent, resourceful, and just a good person to have around whenever you find yourself in a jam. She’s also caring in her own way, and I just really “connected” with her in this movie.
“There are all sorts of things that I should know, but they aren’t telling me.”

Forrest Gump | Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is one of my favorite characters of all time. His sweet innocence is so endearing, and you can’t help but love him and sympathize with his story. If only everyone was as simple and loving as Forrest.
“I’m not a smart man… but I know what love is.”

Hayley | Hard Candy
Some might argue that Hayley is extremely, um, psychotic, but throughout the movie I couldn’t help but admire her. She takes justice into her own hands and takes “standing up for what’s right” to an entirely new level. She has balls, and I love her for it.
“Does my face lie?”

Cleopatra | Cleopatra
When I read anything on Cleopatra, Elizabeth Taylor pops into my head. To me her name is almost synonymous with Cleopatra, and how could it not be? She took this role and made it her own, and looked absolutely gorgeous throughout. History has it that the real Cleopatra wasn’t a looker, but I prefer to think of her as Elizabeth Taylor in costume because it makes me feel better, okay?
“The corridors are dark gentlemen, but you mustn’t be afraid. I am with you.”

Clementine | Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I think there’s a little Clementine in all of us. She’s a free spirit, although a bit reckless, but I love her all the same. She’s impulsive, demanding, and in her own way broken, and I think that’s why I find her memorable. She’s not perfect, or a heroine, or traditionally beautiful, but whatever she is works for her.
“Too many guys think I’m a concept, or I complete them, or I’m gonna make them alive. But I’m just a fucked-up girl who’s lookin’ for my own peace of mind; don’t assign me yours.”
