I Like Books
April 13, 2008 · Filed under: Online. Personal.
Hi, I’m a shameless nerd.
I joined the 28 Books in 2008 challenge. April is a little late to start, but I’ve read a couple of books already and that’s accepted so I’m hoping to catch up quick. You can see the books I’ve read and the books I’m planning to read here. It’s been such a long time since I’ve read books continuously, and not every six months. I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things soon.
And because I love books so much I decided to share a meme/survey all about books that I filled out a while ago.
Three books that have marked your childhood:
- Deenie - I remember being in sixth grade and absolutely loving this book by Judy Blume. I chose it because of the name (I wasn’t very picky back then) and I ended up loving it.
- Life without Friends - I remember reading this back in 9th grade and falling in love with the story. I never forgot it. The book is out of print I believe, but I was able to get it from Amazon and needless to say, I am a happy nerd.
- The Baby Sitters Club series - Duh. Best series ever, I don’t care what anyone says. I would read two books a day, I loved it so much. Who cares that they were in 8th grade for like 10 years? Not me! Also, who else wanted to start their own baby-sitting business? It couldn’t have been just me.
Your three favourite books (only 3, even if it’s hard!):
This was so hard :(
- Pride and Prejudice - My favorite book ever. I’ve read it about six times, and I enjoy it every single time. Once I get into what I call Austen Language, I get so immersed in this story. I loved the movie too (and own it).
- The Kite Runner - This book changed my life. The character Hassan is unforgettable, as well as the friendship between Amir and Hassan… I couldn’t put this book down, and it quickly became one of my favorites.
- Harry Potter series - I started reading these books pretty late, when I was 18, but I read the first six in less than a year. I read the last one when it came out last summer and like everyone else, was sad to see the series end. I just love this entire world and its characters.
Three books you could read again and again without growing weary of it:
- Pride and Prejudice - Like I said, I’ve read it six times and still haven’t gotten tired of it.
- Harry Potter - I’ve read Order of the Phoenix four times (that’s nothing compared to some people, but cut me some slack, I was a late bloomer!) and love it.
- The Giver - I love love love this book. I also loved Gathering Blue by the same author, and a companion novel to The Giver.
Three books you’ve read or are reading recently:
- Pure Sunshine (Just finished this one.)
- Frida Kahlo: A Spiritual Biography (Amazing.)
- The Little Prince
You can read what I thought about these recently read books here.
One special, fetish book that you’d keep with yourself all the time:
Uh, I don’t know about fetish, but Pride and Prejudice and The Kite Runner will always be in my bookshelf.
Three books that you’ll read soon:
- In The Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez (re-read)
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (Same author from The Kite Runner so I’m so so excited to read this one.)
- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (Only heard good things about this book.)
What are your favorite books and why?
(P.S. I updated my links, y’all.)
