Hi Mom!

A few days ago my mother read part of my website. To be more specific, she read this particular entry as well as all of your comments.

She laughed her ass off.

I’ve read a few blogs in the past where webowners have either closed down their websites completely, or put their site on an indefinite hiatus because a family member found their own little private sector. I never thought it would happen to me, so when I walked into my mother’s room and saw her browsing my website, I didn’t know what to do. I debated whether to run away, throttle her, or sit down and cry, but instead I just browsed along with her.

She was very nonchalant about it. She thought my bird was pretty, she liked my flickr, and she loved all of your comments. However, I felt a little saddened. I told her that it wouldn’t be the same, having this website and being as open as I am on it… because I feared she’d read it. She told me I shouldn’t feel like that at all. But still, even though she said she liked my website, and liked that particular entry, I don’t feel like I can be as open as I used to be. I feel like I have to watch what I say or distribute, and that puts a damper on the whole thing for me. However, I’ll try my hardest to stay true to myself, and my personality, and not try to hold back on my opinions, because this is my website, after all, and I enjoy having it. We’ll see.

What would you do if your family members or close friends discovered your website?
